Old Brownsville Farms is expanding their offerings from cut your own flowers to include fresh produce available weekly on Saturdays and Sundays.
“People have been stopping by and asking all season long if we had fresh produce available,” Old Brownsville Farms owner Judy Paine said. “We really wanted to figure out how to make it possible for our visitors this year.”
Old Brownsville Farms opened their cut your own flower field on June 6 in Bartlett, and they did not originally plan to have fresh produce available this year.
Through a new partnership with Rob and Bob’s Farm Fresh Produce located in Covington, fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables will be available at the farm on weekends beginning July 19.
“I’m excited for this partnership and look forward to our customers following us,” said Rob Cothran, owner of Rob and Bob’s.
In addition to offering a rotating selection of seasonal produce like sweet corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons and more, Rob and Bob’s will also bring two unique, educational demonstrations to the farm:
A working corn mill, showing visitors how corn meal is made from kernel to flour.
An antique pea sheller, offering a look back in time at how peas were once prepared for the table.
“With our goal of fostering an engaging experience with the opportunity to learn the importance of agriculture within the greater Memphis area, this partnership makes perfect sense,” Paine said.
As a fourth-generation family farm, Old Brownsville Farms is passionate about connecting people to agricultural experiences. From cutting their own flowers to learning how food is grown and prepared, Old Brownsville Farms is proud to be part of the agricultural landscape.
“The addition of these hands-on demonstrations supports the farm’s mission to make farming both fun and educational for visitors of all ages,” Paine said.
Fresh produce sales and ag demos will be available Saturdays and Sundays during regular farm hours.
